Pre-Departure-This is It!!!

So here, it is...It's time, and I'm more than ready to go! I have my bags packed, My affairs in order, and only a few hours to go until it all begins. What is "all" you might ask...well I'm glad you did:

In just a few hours I will fly from Warwick, RI at 6:00am to Halifax, Nova Scotia. That same night, I plan on attending the Semester at Sea Meet and Greet at the Argyle Bar and Grill, hoping to meet a bunch of awesome people ready to go on an adventure around the world! Then on Thursday, I will board the MV Explorer, a 25,000 ton cruise ship which has been remodeled into a floating college campus. Because I have work study (I will be working in the library), I am boarding a full day before everyone else, which thankfully allows me the luxury of not having to wait in line with everyone else on the next day. Somehow I can't see myself enjoying being in the back of a 675 person line.

After boarding and getting settled, we have some sort of training, and prep for the following day, in which we will be helping everyone else board the ship. Later that day, after everyone has boarded and settled in, we will embark, starting an adventure of a lifetime. Our itinerary is as follows:

9/4-Cadiz, Spain

9/10-Casablanca, Morocco

9/22-Takoradi, Ghana

10/3-Cape Town, South Africa

10/14-Port Louis, Mauritius

10/22-Chennai, India

10/31-Singapore

11/3-Ho Chi Min City, Viet Nam

11/11-Hong Kong/Shanghai, China

11/19-Yokahoma/Kobe, Japan

12/3-Honolulu/Hilo, Hawaii

12/13-San Diego, USA

"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did. So throw off the bow lines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover."
-Mark Twain

My cat Sam wants to come! I wonder if I can hide a 20+lb cat in my stuff???

After I got him out, I was able to finish packing. My life for four months is in these four bags.

  1. Sam would put your luggage way over the
weight limit, but he would have loved the
    meet, greet, pet, and purr!

Bon Voyage, can't wait to follow you on your travels thru your blog!

    Hey Chris,

I am sooooo excited for you! As we have talked about so many times... this is trip of a lifetime, so make sure you take every opportunity made available to you! Keep us all posted and take as many pictures as you can, not just the ones that the rest of the world takes, but the ones that capture the spirit of the people and cultures you will be experiencing. You can always see the touristy photos; you can't recapture the moments that you will be exposed to on this journey! I, for one, want a photo of the stars as you sleep on the Great Wall!
    xo,

    Kimberly
